Hosting services through the SCBO ended on March 31, 2009.  If your church or ministry utilized this service, read the details below or contact Dan Stupakewicz (contact info to the right) to find out about your website options.

The State Convention of Baptists in Ohio is currently restructuring our web-hosting program. Our desire to serve Ohio churches and ministries in the most God-honoring way possible, combined with our recent facility change means that the SCBO will be unable to support hosted websites after March 31, 2009. Each church will need to find its own provider for these services after this date. If your church or ministry has been using this service, please review the details and recommendations here in this article, but  feel free to contact me directly for any extra help.

Each church/ministry will need to complete a few basic steps for this transition. Please follow the instructions below as it pertains to your church.
1. Identify a new website host
   - Our #1 recommendation is www.1and1.com. The SCBO will be utilizing this service
for our principal website as well
-Domain name registration is included (vital for churches whose web
           URL currently ends in ohbaptist.org)
          -FrontPage support is available
-Monthly cost is minimal (typically under $5)
   - Churches desiring a template based site may with to consider www.e-zekiel.com
  - Regardless of your personal preference, a new host should be able to give you
enough space for your complete website – including any expected growth,
as well as support for e-mail and other services.

2. Move your existing site, or create a new one
   - The files and folders that make up your website can be copied to your new host – FTP
      is the preferred method
   - E-mail accounts should be configured with the new host
   - It is important to complete this step prior to step 3 to ensure uninterrupted service to
     your site visitors

3. Modify DNS records if necessary
if your church already owns a domain name and wishes to continue to use it, you will need to contact your domain registrar and update you DNS “A Record” and possibly MX record(s)
If you are setting up a new domain name along with your new hosting plan, this is usually done for you.

4. Tell everyone about your new website
   - Communicate with your members
   - Let your community know of any changes to your web address

I continue to encourage every church to maintain an up-to-date website. Statistics show us that nearly 80% of new visitors will view a church’s website prior to attending – those churches without websites are missing out on valuable opportunities to impact lives for Christ. Again, if I can be of any help please contact me. Thank you for the opportunity to serve your church.
