New Day Church Opens Kettering Ohio’s 2010 Water Raves Water Park Season

With 9 baptisms

Kettering, OHIO—Kettering Recreation Center opened its Water Raves Water Park (http://www.ketteringoh.org/newweb/departments/recreation/) for the summer season Memorial Day weekend with a bigger splash than usual: New Day Church (www.newdaysbc.com) baptized nine people in the outdoor pool under hot sunny skies during an early morning Sunday service. The church meets weekly for worship at the Lathrem Center of Kettering Rec.

Among those baptized were one man and two families of four, including the family of nine year old Cameron Neal. Cameron was diagnosed last April with Anaplastic Ependymoma, a malignant cancer, and had a large tumor successfully removed from his brain.

“Every baptismal service touches our hearts, but seeing individuals’ obedience to Christ and knowing the daily struggles of some of those baptized today made it particularly moving,” said Pastor Barry Jude (www.broadlf.com/NewDay/blog/).

The other family helped set a new record for Jude, who has been in ministry 29 years: They represent the tallest people he has baptized, both as individuals and as a family, standing 7’ tall, 6’10”, 6’1” and 5’11”.

“That was a new experience for me, but I took it in stride,” quipped Jude, pointing out that baptizing someone that tall requires that he make a wider step for immersion.

The baptismal service, the fifth baptismal service utilizing indoor and outdoor pools at Kettering Rec, was the largest celebrated to date by the 1-year-old New Day Church. The church has already scheduled anotherbaptismal service for the following week at the outdoor pool.
