Homegoing Pastor Charles Abney

WOOSTER -- The Rev. Charles D. Abney, 91, Wooster, went home to be in
the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, in West View
Manor Nursing Home.

He was born Dec. 9, 1919, in Taylor Mines, Ky., the son of N.V. and
Effie Beasley Abney.

He attended Clear Creek Bible College in Kentucky and served as a
pastor for 50 years. He served at Nold Avenue in Wooster, Bellville,
Wilmot and Maple Grove Baptist churches. He was a member of the
Northside Baptist Church in Wooster with J. C. Rickard serving as his
pastor. He held various positions in the Southern Baptist Conference
and was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats and St. Louis
Cardinals fan. He served his country with the U.S. Army during World
War II from 1941 to 1945 in the South Pacific. He came home from the
war and married Mary Parks in 1945.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, Mary Parks Abney, he is survived
by a daughter, Joan (Tom) Green of Wooster; grandchildren Amy Lynn
(Chris) Candelaria of Los Angeles, and Stacie Renee Green and Matt
Moore of Lake Bluff, Ill.; and a brother, Leon (Betty) of Beaver Dam,
Ky.
