Covenant Church - A New Church Plant in Grove City
A team of church planters arrived in Grove City, a suburb of Columbus, in February to launch a new church start. Lead planter Travis Davenport and team members Nick Hershberger, David Palmer, Cory Ball and Maria Shanlian along with their spouses began team meetings to plan and pray about the new plant. The first meeting actually had 19 in attendance. The purpose of the launch team meetings was to cast vision, team building, praying and to identify leaders for Covenant Church.

The team passed out approximately 10,000 door hangers in the community announcing their first preview service being held in March at the Regal Cinemas. They had 130 people in attendance at that service! Seven individuals surrendered their lives to Christ that day!
Covenant Church also began with five small groups with a plan to have eight by the end of March. They worked hard to put a system in place to identify potential small group leaders and matched them with current small group leaders.
This way they could “apprentice” under them until the group is ready to multiply. The initial goal was to have each small group multiply within a 6-12 month period, however with the number of people attending that goal had to be readjusted. Two of these groups went from 10 to 25 in attendance within the first two weeks. Responsibility was put in the hands of the small group leaders to invite people. On Easter 150 people were in attendance. At this point 75 individuals have been identified to be a part of the official launch team.
While Covenant Church has worked extremely hard and strategically to have systems in place to identify and assimilate people there is no hesitation to give full credit and praise to the Lord for what He is doing! The “official” launch day will be in June. The prayer is that they will have 400-500 in attendance. Pastor Travis and the team constantly want people to know that this is God’s church, His results, and He will receive all praise and glory.
Covenant Church believes the fields are ready to be harvested! They want to see many people become Christ followers. They want to see campuses of Covenant Church planted all around Columbus that will eventually become their own churches and in turn they will plant other churches.
Travis says that Covenant Church desires to "see a powerful movement of God taking place in Columbus.... Jesus is First! Our job is to constantly cast the vision over and over and over in new and creative ways" so many more will hear the story of salvation through Jesus Christ!
