The State Convention of Baptists in Ohio is pleased to introduce Sisters Who Care.SM
This entity of the Woman’s Missionary Union(WMU®) is the new and
dynamic call of African American women to join forces to make a
positive impact on their homes, churches, community and all the world
for Jesus Christ. The campaign provides practical, flexible, and
relevant ways for women to discover how to fulfill the Great
Commission: “Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them
disciples...and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And
I will be with you always, to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:19-20 TEV).
We Can Make a Difference
The
rich heritage of African American Church women extends across the
centuries. We have always stood at the forefront of movements to
elevate the disenfranchised and disadvantaged among us. We stand on the
shoulders of great women like Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, and
Nannie Helen Burroughs (close and dear friend of Annie Armstrong. As
we enter a new millennium, the last marks of slavery still plague some
parts of our country. Some communities struggle with high rates of
poverty, crime, teen pregnancy, illegal drug use, and unemployment. We
know that Jesus is still the answer. We believe that with Him we can
make a difference. Sisters Who Care (SWC) through Women on Missions
provides a means to make the difference.
