Super Summer Recommendation
As you have probably heard, every year in June, the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio runs a leadership camp called Super Summer. To put it bluntly, it is one of the best weeks of the year for those students and adults who attend. The camp is an intense time of Bible training that is coupled with great fellowship and awesome worship, and is for students going into the 8th grade through their first year of college. The students who attend will obtain 11 hours of Bible training from pastors at churches all over Ohio, sit in 11 family group sessions, and attend worship services in the evening. This year, the speaker is the President of Cedarville, Dr. Bill Brown.
My name is Devin DelGrosso. I am the youth pastor at Bloom Baptist Church in Lithopolis, Ohio, and I am also the Dean of the Red School here at Super Summer. Our school is for students who are entering the 8th grade. Super Summer isn't designed for every one to attend. The camp is a leadership camp whose motto is "Send us your best, and we will send them back better!" As a youth pastor, I understand it can be hard sometimes to see leadership potential in 8th graders, so I wanted to give you an idea on the type of 8th grader you should send.
If you have an 8th grader who attends your youth events regularly and has a clear commitment to Christ, then I would recommend allowing them to come. Many churches do an application for this camp (which is recommended), but it doesn't always have to be pass or fail when it comes to this age group. In Red School, we will be covering the basics of what it means to be a Christian, how to develop a testimony, and how to witness to people using the Roman's Road. At the end of the week, we make them practice using these by witnessing to the adults at this camp, so by the time they come home to your church, they are fully capable of witnessing at a basic level. If this sounds like something that could benefit their lives and your ministry, I strongly encourage you to consider sending them to this camp.
