Focused Sunday School

Associate BTLAssociate BTLAs I have been a part of the state convention, there is one event that works hard at the practical side of ministry within the church. That event, “The State Sunday School Workers Training Event.”  It happens once a year in August, and this past August was a great one. We are grateful to FBC Grove City who hosted this event in their new facility. All of the LifeWay facilitators who provided excellent teaching in our breakouts and David Francis, Director of Sunday School for LifeWay who was our guest speaker. Most of all we want to say thank you to everyone who came and participated in this training event.

The theme of this event was David’s new book “Connect3” The Power of One Sunday School Class. This is the last book in a series entitled 3D-Sunday School. In this book David uncovers three various levels that a Sunday School class meets on from week to week. Observe:

  • Class – a participating member
  • Community – organized for caring & sharing
  • Commission – becoming missionaries

After reviewing these various class levels, where do you find your class? Are they simply meeting from week to week for the purpose of Bible study (which by the way there is nothing wrong with that)? Or are you finding your class a safe place. A place where you can share your ideas, thoughts, fears, and needs and know that your class members will respond. Or is your class on the third level, the Commission? Where it is no longer about me or us but it is about them. It is where we personally take what we have learned from God’s Word and put the Great Commission into action.

As you are in this current quarter of curriculum, look at how your class and not only go deeper into the study but also take what you have learned and share that with others. Blessings!
